Changing a sentence from one grammatical form to another without changing its meaning is known as transformation of sentence.
- Interchanging Affirmative and Negative Sentence
1. Remove adverb "too" and put "so......that"
Repeat the subject
Cannot/Could not according to the tense
Example:
Affirmative: He is too weak to walk.
Negative: He is so weak that he cannot walk.
Affirmative: She is too intelligent to fool.
Negative: She is so intelligent that she cannot be fooled.
2. For superlative degrees in Affirmative, use No other ............ as + positive degree
Example:
Affirmative: Napoleon was the greatest European general.
Negative: No other European general was as great as Napoleon.
3. For comparative degree, use as + positive degree + as
Example:
Affirmative: Abhishek is better than any other boy in the class.
Negative: No other boy in the class is as good as Abhishek.
4. Replace phrases such as "As soon as","Hardly", "Scarcely" etc. in the affirmative with "No sooner had......than".
Example:
Affirmative: As soon as the police arrived, the robbers fled away.
Negative: No sooner had the police arrived than the robbers fled away.
Affirmative: They jumped as soon as the boat reached the shore.
Negative: No sooner had the boat reached the shore than they jumped.
5. Use double negative
Example:
Affirmative: Please remember me.
Negative: Please do not forget me.
Affirmative: I agree with you.
Negative: I do not disagree with you.
6. Replace "Only" in the affirmative with "None but" (if person) and "Nothing but" (if things) in the negative.
Example:
Affirmative: Only a fool can say so.
Negative: None but a fool can say so.
Affirmative: Only light can travel so fast.
Negative: Nothing but light can travel so fast.

Negative Sentence - Positive Question
Example:
Negative Sentence: One swallow does not make a summer.
Positive Question : Does one swallow make a summer?
Positive Sentence: Everyone loves his motherland.
Negative Question: Who does not love his motherland?

Assertive: It is a very nice picture.
Exclamatory: Oh! That I were young again.
Assertive: I wish that I were young again.
Exclamatory: Alas! Our beloved leader is dead.
Assertive: It is very sad that our beloved leader is dead.
